Red Pontiac Seed Potato, (5 lbs.), A Favorite Red Potato, Certified Seed Potato

Regular price $19.99

Includes 5 lbs. Red Pontiac Seed Potatoes

This large round potato has thin, dark red skins, deep eyes, and crisp white flesh.

Excellent for mashed potatoes and boiling, but not baking. Heat tolerant, long-storing, and high yielding, it will grow in heavy soil; well suited for growing in wire cages. One precaution about this variety: the skin is so thin, it should be allowed to cure and firm up for a week or two in the ground after the vines die back.

5 lbs. of seed potatoes will normally make about 30-35 potato sets when cut. (each cut needs at least one eye or sprout)

Height: 24 - 36 inches.

Spacing: 12 to 15 inches.

Depth: 3 to 5 inches deep and 30 to 36 inches between rows.

Spread: 18 - 24 inches.

Sun/Shade: Full sun.

Foliage: Green foliage.

Days To Maturity: 80 - 100 days. Main season.

Form: Annual. Upright.

Soil Requirements: Well-drained, fertile loamy soil.

Growth Rate: Moderate growth rate.

Planting Info:  Fertilize at planting time. Sprinkle a tablespoon of 10-10-10 fertilizer in the space between each potato piece. Do not apply the fertilizer directly to the potatoes as it can burn the tubers.

After plants are 8 - 10 inches tall, use a hoe and pile several inches of soil up around the stems. This prevents exposure to the sun which causes tubers to become green and inedible. Harvest after tops turn yellow. Can be stored at 40 - 50 degrees F.
